Clinton Global Initiative Members Commit to Rebuild Haiti

WASHINGTON, DC -- (Marketwire) -- 10/01/08 -- Heeding former President Clinton's requestfor aid in Haiti following recent natural disasters, William Loiry,President of Equity International, has made a commitment to produce theHaiti Development Resource Bank. This online portal will link the resourcesof corporations, governments, organizations, and individuals with thereconstruction and development needs of Haiti which President Clinton spokeabout during the closing session of the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI)Annual Conference in New York September 26.

Several CGI members have made significant commitments along with Loiry torebuilding Haiti in light of the recent storms which have destroyed partsof the country, leaving many without a home or supplies needed to live."There is an immediate need to serve this area with resources which can notonly help restore Haiti to pre-hurricane status, but help develop thepoorest nation in the Western Hemisphere into a safe, sustainable, andlivable country," says Loiry. He adds, "Myself and fellow CGI participantsbelieve that Haiti should be rebuilt better than what existed before andhope the efforts and commitments to the area can engage the U.S. andinternational community to focus on a brighter future for all in a countryvery near us."

Loiry hosted the first Katrina reconstruction summits after the devastationof Hurricanes Katrina and Rita and developed the Gulf Coast ReconstructionPortal to facilitate effective short-term and long-term hurricane economicreconstruction throughout the Gulf Coast by bringing together business,government, relief, and emergency management leaders. He will build uponthe success of this portal to provide swift aid to the Haitian community.Loiry's commitment to Hurricane Katrina was honored when he was invited byPresident Clinton to be an inaugural member of the Clinton GlobalInitiative in 2005. In addition to his current CGI commitment to aidHaiti, he has also made a broad commitment to a sustainable future throughhis online community, the Clean Action Network (www.cleanaction.org).
